- Experienced Client Accountant - Part Time, Hybrid
Description
Pooley Accounting Services is seeking an experienced accountant to manage accounting work for a portfolio of small business and nonprofit clients. We’re looking for someone who can take ownership of client deadlines, produce accurate financial information, investigate issues, and communicate directly with clients with limited day-to-day supervision.
Since 2007, Pooley Accounting Services has helped businesses and nonprofit organizations understand their finances and make informed decisions. Our team works closely with clients and with one another to provide dependable, practical accounting support.
What You’ll Bring
- At least five years of hands-on accounting experience, including responsibility for completing and reviewing financial records.
- Strong QuickBooks Online skills, including reconciliations, troubleshooting, and financial reporting.
- Experience managing work for multiple clients or entities, with the judgment to resolve routine issues independently and escalate significant concerns.
- Experience processing or managing payroll and meeting recurring payroll deadlines.
- Clear, professional communication with clients and coworkers.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and follow-through.
- Comfort working both onsite and remotely with limited supervision.
- Hands-on Xero experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience with Google Workspace is also preferred
Schedule and Work Environment
This is a part-time position averaging 25–35 hours per week. You will manage your assigned client work and deadlines with a flexible schedule coordinated with client needs and the PAS team. The role includes work at our St. Louis-area office, remote work, and occasional visits to client offices.
Paid work time includes client work, company staff meetings, and company training. We will discuss the expected onsite schedule during the interview process. Reliable transportation for local client visits is required.
Compensation and Benefits
Pay is based on experience and demonstrated ability to manage client accounting independently. PAS offers a retirement program with a 3% company match, plus employee-paid AFLAC, vision and dental benefit options.

Requirements
What You’ll Do
- Manage assigned client accounting work, priorities, and deadlines independently.
- Maintain accurate books in QuickBooks Online and, where applicable, Xero. Often managing third-party application integrations.
- Reconcile bank, credit card, and other balance sheet accounts; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Complete month-end accounting work and review financial statements for accuracy and unusual activity.
- Process and manage payroll for assigned clients, including meeting payroll deadlines, reviewing payroll information for accuracy, and recording payroll activity in the accounting system.
- Manage or support tasks such as bill pay, expense tracking, and preparation of information for tax returns and audits, according to each client’s scope of services.
- Review accounting work completed by clients and recommend corrections or improvements.
- Serve as a day-to-day contact for assigned clients, respond to questions, and follow through on outstanding information.
- Document your work, communicate significant issues promptly, and collaborate with other PAS team members when needed.
- Track time spent on client work and other assigned activities.
