Project Accountant role in global defence business | Newly created Brisbane team Your new company
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a globally backed organisation operating within the defence sector, currently expanding its footprint across Australia following recent contract wins. With an established international presence and a growing Australian operation, this business is building a Brisbane-based finance function, offering the opportunity to join at a critical stage of growth and play a key role in shaping financial processes and reporting.

Your new role
This is a Project Accountant position, suited to a technically strong accountant with an interest in project-based environments and complex financial reporting. Working closely with both local and international stakeholders, you will support financial control and deliver high-quality reporting across key projects.
Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting the month-end close process, including journals, reconciliations and variance analysis
• Working across project accounting, with a focus on revenue recognition and cost management
• Preparing management reports and financial analysis for stakeholders
• Investigating variances and providing clear commentary and insights
• Ensuring accuracy of general ledger and sub-ledger reconciliations
• Supporting budgeting and forecasting processes
• Managing compliance with Australian accounting standards and ATO requirements
• Partnering with project teams to provide financial support and performance insight
• Contributing to the development of financial processes, controls and systems

What you'll need to succeed

• CA/CPA qualified (or working towards)
• Strong grounding in technical accounting and financial reporting
• Experience in project accounting or complex reporting environments preferred
• Strong analytical capability with high attention to detail
• Experience using ERP systems (e.g. D365 or similar)
• Advanced Excel skills
• Confident communicator with the ability to work across cross-functional and international teams
• Proactive mindset with a willingness to learn and grow in a dynamic environment
