Description
weElevateIT is seeking a Senior Accountant with strong federal financial management, fund accounting, and audit readiness experience to serve as an Audit Readiness and Triage Lead embedded within a federal defense financial-management environment. In this role, you will drive transaction remediation, manage triage workflows, and produce audit-ready documentation supporting financial compliance across complex fund accounting operations. You will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve variances, strengthen internal controls, and sustain audit readiness under federal financial management standards.
What you'll do:
- Lead end-to-end transaction remediation efforts, prioritizing and resolving financial discrepancies through structured triage workflows.
- Perform detailed reconciliations and variance analyses across fund accounts, ensuring alignment with GAAP, SFFAS, and federal financial management regulations.
- Develop and maintain audit evidence documentation packages that meet GAGAS and DoD FMR requirements.
- Analyze financial data using federal financial management systems and automated compliance monitoring tools to identify control weaknesses and drive corrective action.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders—including auditors and program offices—to communicate findings, track remediation status, and close open audit items.
- Apply forensic accounting techniques to investigate irregular transactions and support root-cause analysis.
- Produce accurate financial reports and compliance deliverables in accordance with DoD FMR 7000.14-R, SFFAS, and applicable federal standards.
- Support continuous improvement of internal controls and financial reporting processes within a hybrid, fast-paced financial-management environment.
Requirements
Required
- U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance (current clearance not required; clearance-eligible candidates encouraged to apply), including the ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) and a favorable federal background investigation.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in federal financial management, fund accounting, audit readiness, audit remediation, or accounting operations support.
- Strong understanding of general ledger activity, accounting transaction flows, reconciliations, financial reporting processes, and internal controls.
- Demonstrated expertise in transaction remediation and triage workflow management within a federal or defense financial environment.
- Proficiency in reconciliation, variance analysis, and audit evidence documentation.
- Applied knowledge of GAAP, SFFAS, GAGAS / Yellow Book, DoD FMR 7000.14-R, and USSGL.
- Experience operating federal financial management systems and automated compliance monitoring tools.
- Ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders in a federal or GovCon environment.
Preferred
- Working knowledge of the DoD Standard General Ledger (SGL) and its application within defense financial operations.
- Hands-on experience with DoD financial systems and DoD FMR compliance activities.
- Demonstrated audit readiness support experience, including engagements with Inspectors General or independent auditors.
- Prior experience in a GovCon environment supporting defense or federal agency customers.
- Familiarity with prompt engineering concepts applied to financial analysis or compliance workflows.
- Active CPA, CGFM, or CDFM certification (at least one highly preferred).
