Senior Portfolio Accountant

Real Estate Investment Firm | San Francisco, CA

A well‑established, privately held real estate investment firm headquartered in San Francisco is seeking a Senior Portfolio Accountant to join its growing finance team. This firm invests across a diversified U.S. commercial real estate portfolio and is known for its long‑term, value‑driven investment approach.

This role is ideal for a hands‑on accounting professional who enjoys owning the full accounting cycle for complex real estate assets and partnering closely with investment, asset management, and operations teams.

What You'll Do

• Oversee full‑cycle accounting for a portfolio of real estate entities, including monthly, quarterly, and annual closes
• Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Manage property‑level and entity‑level accounting, including consolidations
• Reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts
• Coordinate with third‑party property managers, external accountants, and auditors
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
• Support capital transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, refinancings, and development activity
• Improve and document accounting processes, controls, and reporting efficiencies
• Provide mentorship and review work of junior accounting staff (as applicable)

What They're Looking For

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within real estate, private equity, or investment management
• Strong understanding of commercial real estate accounting (entities, properties, partnerships)
• Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements
• Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., Yardi, MRI, or similar preferred)
• Advanced Excel skills
• Detail‑oriented, deadline‑driven, and comfortable managing multiple entities
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate cross‑functionally
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA a plus)
